Heath Ledger is The Joker
Australian actor Heath Ledger, who earned an Oscar nomination for his role as a gay cowboy in “Brokeback Mountain,” will play The Joker in the next Batman movie, titled “The Dark Knight.” He will reprise the role memorably played by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton‘s “Batman” back in 1989. Christian Bale will reprise his role as the Caped Crusader for the second time after last year’s “Batman Begins” and Christopher Nolan will return as director.
Even if Heath is a great actor, I think Nicholson’s performance as The Joker will remain unsurpassed. Jack literally stole the show when he played the role and critics of the film had observed archly that it ought to have been called “The Joker” rather than “Batman.”
