Country music star Kenny Chesney has taken to vehemently denying his gayness. People magazine reports:
Kenny Chesney is shooting down the gay rumors [that] originally sparked when Renée Zellweger cited “fraud” as the reason for annulling their brief 2005 marriage. “It’s not true. Period. Maybe I should have come out and said, ‘No, I’m not (gay),’ but I didn’t want to draw any more attention to it,” the country star tells 60 Minutes in an interview to air Sunday. “I didn’t have to prove to anybody that I wasn’t (gay). I didn’t feel like I really did,” he says.
So, obviously, he is gay. Any man who claims to be heterosexual but voluntarily marries Renee fucking Zellweger undoubtedly bats for the other team. Or else is severely myopic and borderline retarded. Which is pretty much the same thing as being gay, only with less butt sex and more kick-ass parking.

Well, I’m quite overwhelmed by the comments on this blog. As a gay professional I do hope he’s gay (though he’d have to keep his hat on to get in my bed). As a human rights activist I think it’s none of our business (awwwww). I will say, though, that I’m VERY disappointed that the Biography Channel completely ignored this issue.
About Marriage: I grew up in a socioeconomic group not far removed from Chesney’s. Like him, I married because I was taught that some activities (some worse than gay) were a “phase.” It didn’t work for me, as I suspect it didn’t for this artist. I refuse to apologize for getting married, since I didn’t know any better. For the same reason I can’t criticize Chesney IF this is the case.
Now we come to the REAL issue: Chesney’s career. Is there a single person, male or female, who would deny that coming out would DESTROY his career? Look as some other artists: Richard Ruccalo can’t get a part in a commercial; Dean Cain is reduced to fourth-class roles simply because he played a gay man in two films (The Broken Hearts Club and Best Man) — I won’t comment more about Cain on this blog. The bottom line is that we live in a capitalist republic that lives by “the golden rule” (meaning that he who has the most gold, rules). If Chesney is gay, and if he chooses to remain in the closet for the next twenty years, I refuse to contest his stand. If Chesney is NOT gay, I applaud his efforts to defuse this sort of “litmus test.”
None of us — I repeat, NONE OF US — has the right or duty to persecute or “out” Kenny Chesney. Those who think they do are as limited in vision as, say, Falwell or Van Impe or Robertson. Let’s continue to “dish” Chesney, but let’s keep a tight leash on our desire to see him kiss another man on “Nightline.”
Though I respect Chesney’s decision to remain vague about his sexuality, I do not deny that I’d LOVE to see him plant one on Garth Brooks at some country music event!

I’m involved in the country music industry. I have clients who know Kenny Chesney quite well. I have heard stories about him all along. Kenny is not the only gay man in country music. I was told by an client who is a fellow singer in the industry that Kenny Chesney and Peyton Manning are very much romantically or at lest sexually involved and it is widely known and guarded among his closed circle of family and friends. My friend also says that at one point Peyton Manning was being pressured by the Colts management to give up his affair with Chesney to avoid any embarassment to the Indianapolis football club. Nevertheless, you will never get anyone to admit this stuff. The country music industry is as bad as the old film studios wonce were about their stars. They will do most anything to protect their investment. These people have enormous amounts of money invested in their “stars” and being outed as gay is not considered good for business in country music. You can plainly see why.
