Fergie Hawks Candie’s Shoes

It looks like Don McLean was talking out of his ass when he first sang about “the day the music died,” because it didn’t actually die in 1959. The music died last week, when Fergie finished it off by stuffing fistfuls of advertising dollars down its throat and sitting on its face until it stopped twitching. According to The Post-Chronicle
Fergie is set to make £2 million by promoting a US clothing firm in her songs. The 32-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer, who has become the first star to agree to product placement in her songs, will write and perform tracks endorsing fashion company Candie’s on her second solo album. An executive at Fergie’s record label said: “With record sales in decline, you must find novel ways to make money out of the music.”
Fergie has also agreed to appear in Candie’ s TV adverts and allow Candie’s advisors to style fans at her shows.
It’s hard to imagine David Gilmore and Roger Waters warbling about Tampax’s unique absorbent string or Pizza Hut’s all new Wingstreet Wings in the middle of “The Wall.” Kinda a conflict of interest. I guess Pink Floyd just didn’t have the innovative musical vision that Fergie does. Really, who needs genuine talent and artistic integrity when you’ve got shoe companies to line your pockets? “Welcome, my son, to the machine.”

So let me see… she’s doing in her media what television, movies, and novels have BEEN doing in theirs? Hard to get through a Steven King’s “Dreamcatcher” without getting assaulted by the brand names. Sounds like musicians are a lit-tle slow.

Can’t wait for Kelly Clarkson to start placing for Walgreens Femine Douche and Monistat Vaginal cream in her songs.
It’s truly an exciting time to be alive!!!!

This really couldn’t be more unsurprising. The Blackeyed Peas music has sounded like one 4-min-long commercial jingle after another, ever since she joined the group.
Fergie should ask herself, “what would Gwen Stefani do?” Or just go away forever. I like the second idea better.
