Obama’s Daily Show Interview and Infomercial Video

People are always asking me, “So, Abby, who are you going to vote for come November 4th?” The answer is: I’m not. And not just because I’m a registered felon, either. And also not because Election Day falls on Triple Taco Tuesday at the Mexi-Hut. That’s just a happy coincidence. I’m not voting because I think both candidates may, in fact, be communists, what with their “nationalizing the banks” this and “from each, according to his ability; to each, according to his need” that. But if I were a voting girl, I think Barack Obama would have sealed the deal with last night’s half-hour long prime time infomercial and appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He’s self-effacing and confident, personable and charming all at once, like me after a couple of drinks, except he keeps his shirt on. I’d say the only way John McCain could seem more antiquated and out of touch now is if he had tentacles for a beard and a barnacle-covered lobster claw for a hand and only came up on dry land once every hundred years.

Informercial in its entirety after the jump.

Wow…it’s all about obama, and how much America sucks.

I guess if he gets the chance to turn the US into an European socialist failed experiment, people here will wake up.

But it will be to late.

    To Joe the Plumber:
Riiiiight, because the neoliberal experiment has been working so well. The tenets of neoliberalism, that is the ardent beliefs in the “invisible hand” and “trickle down” economics have been proven wrong. Before the Washington Consensus we had Bretton Woods which was decidedly Keynesian and therefore involved some government involvement. But it wasn’t socialism. Did you know that capitalism as you understand it is not the natural progression as neolibs would have you believe, and that there are actually different types of capitalism? So there is room for government involvement without being a commie. Seriously, read a book before you comment on things you don’t understand.

I think what Obama is getting at is that whatever has been done for the past thirty years has been shown to be deeply flawed and has hurt the middle to lower middle class the most. It’s not socialism, it’s trying to find something that works. Heck, even Adam Smith thought that government should intervene when things got messy. There are far worse things than taxing the rich, like millions of people being homeless.
