Heidi Klum’s Halloween Costume Kicks Ass

Victoria’s Secret supermodel Heidi Klum threw her 9th Annual Halloween Party in New York on Friday dressed as the multi-armed Indian god Shiva. As always, she had the best costume there. The only way that costume could kick any more ass is if it also included eight boobs and maybe a functional jet pack.

  1. That's not cool

    Actually, that’s Kali.

  2. sonya

    That’s awesome.

  3. abby

No, Kali has ten arms; she only has eight. I spent like twenty minutes trying to figure out which one it actually was.

  4. yes, i'm that a-hole

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Redkali3.jpg

it looks like heidi meant it to be kali, but failed to get the number of arms correct. check the things in the statues hands against the picture of heidi, it’s all the same stuff.

  5. abby

But how many vaginas did she have? That’s the real question. I’ll need pictures.

    Nicely done, A-hole!

  6. lisa

This is the most original and the best costume I have seen!

  7. Guest

I find Heidi Klum’s costume highly offensive. The Hindu community holds its deity’s in very high regard and do not trivialize and degrade their importance by dressing up as them and participating in dance or drinking alcohol. People dressing up as Jesus or the Pople for Halloween might be accepted by the Xtian masses, but I assure you, this is highly offensive and unacceptable to the Hindu masses.

  8. heidi Klum should have researched her costume before wearing it,she is diesrespectful of other peoples religion and she should be told where to get off.You don’t go around dressed like godess kali, goddess that we pray to and expect Hundus all over the world to accept it!

  9. It’s clearly Heidi was attracted just to the spectacular part of this look, without taking into account what the deity means to the Hindu world. Yes, it is the most original costume ever, she has outdone herself with this look.

  10. That's not cool

You know what’s offensive? People pluralising by adding ’s, starting sentences with lower case letters and getting the spelling of the name of their own religion wrong. And replacing the “Christ” in Christian with an X? Guess what? That’s offensive too. And he’s the Pope, not the Pople. There’s more but frankly I figure that’s enough for you two for now.

Kali’s also portrayed with 4 arms and black skin - it varies.

Abby, I think she had three but don’t quote me on it. The head dangling on her arm belongs to the guy who tried to check it out.

  11. This is disgusting

I find this absolutely disgusting, and people’s reactions shocking. Kali Maa is a Hindu goddess who has incredible importance in the Hindu religion. People referring to vaginas and the number of arms should be ashamed of themselves, and should realise that this is deeply offensive. If a similar tone had been taken using another religion, there would have been outrage and I do not see why the Hindu community should have to ignore this. Heidi Klum should have more sense than this and I believe an apology to the Hindu community is well overdue.

  12. abby

For the record, I also mentioned “boobs.” Let’s try to keep it classy here.

  13. That's not cool

Also disgusting, the fact that 10 million female foetuses have been aborted in India since the introduction of ultrasound 20 years ago. Guess that ties in with the idea that vaginas and boobs are offenive though.

And exactly HOW is speaking about the number of arms used in the replication of a god offensive? Christ in a basket.

  14. sonya

Oh give me a six-armed break. Catholics and Christians are always targets and no one throws a hissy fit. But the minute you start poking fun (and this costume to me isn’t poking fun) at other religions, all hell breaks loose. Remember the “incident” with the Mohammed cartoon? Ring a bell? Yeah. So STFU.

  15. That's not cool

It’s not as though she put on the costume and filmed a porno…

    Hmmm…

That mental image is… mind boggling.

  16. yes, i'm that a-hole

halloween in and of itself is offensive, so why are you jackasses so surprised? you’re the kind of dumbdumbs that would take juvenal’s satires seriously. moreover, if you’re looking for sensitivity, humorlessness, and handholding, go back to your college anthro class and stop reading celebrity gossip sites that are cherished for their scathing commentary.

  17. This is disgusting

“That’s not cool”- lets not distract ourselves from what the topic here is. It always is odd why other issues in India are raised when an issue of controversy arises. Number of arms- yes is offensive. Frankly enough, if you don’t understand the religion and the story behind it, don’t act like you know it all and start preaching on about crap.

And ‘Sonya’, if Christians and Catholics don’t find people ‘poking fun’ offensive, then their fair game. I will not stand by and let the Hindu religion be made fun of. And yes dressing up in a costume is ‘poking fun’ as it is portraying Kali Maa in a poor light. Again, if you don’t understand it, don’t go into it. I would state the same for Heidi Klum who may have believed this to be harmless fun, but unfortunately no it isnt.

‘Thats not cool’- if you don’t have one ounce of respect for yourself, let alone for other people and their religions, then I simply feel sorry for you.

    ‘Abby’- get a life.

‘Yes i’m that a hole’ Halloween isnt offensive to a particular religion. Introducing concepts of Hindu religion into it is simply stupid and unnecessary. I am not looking for ’sensitivity, humorlessness, and handholding’ - I am asking for people to respect the Hindu religion.

If you people can’t understand the need to respect religious beliefs, then this your own problem. I just wished to express my discontent and anger at this. Once again, Kali Maa is a Hindu deity, whom is highly regarded in the Hindu religion. Showing a bit of respect isn’t too much to ask, I hope.

  18. Enkay

She owes a public apology to the Hindu Community..It really is disgusting.
And there is no fun in hurting other people’s sentiments.

  19. Still, with all due respect to Kali, the Hindu religion and all other religions for that matter, this is the best Halloween costume. Ever.

  20. sonya

I think Kali Maa can take care of herself and doesn’t need anyone to defend her. I mean, look at her. She wears skulls as a belt and carries decapitated heads. Something’s telling me she’s not a wimp.

  21. Oh Please

Oh please. How many time have people dressed up as Jesus? Please get off Heidi’s back and relax. Yes her costume is not correct but it si not offensive. Get over it. There are things that are more important to worry about.

  22. OH Please - Well for one you guys can look over someone dressed as Jesus but thats not acceptable with us incase someone does such a cheap act as she did. When one clearly knows that its a deity can’t s/he still give any regard and not do something as absurd as that?!

If you guys don’t have enough respect for your messiah, then that’s not our problem. One more thing dressing up for something as absurd as halloween in that attire is really out of question - has the Pumpkin attire gone out of the market? People in India might as well wear Kali Maa’s attire but not for such public events for show off.

So get a life and don’t befool yourself - as trying to be a preacher; as you are not.

  23. Noah

OMG, Honestly, it’s not like she’s dressed up as Vampire-Christ or Zombie-Virgin Mary, I mean, if you look at the image of Kali she really embodies destruction and she is depicted with the shrunken heads and all…
If only people realized it’s just a halloween costume, I’m sure that Heidi meant no harm, it’s just that when it comes to religion people are so sensible about it, it’s always been a hot button.

  24. This is disgusting

‘oh please’- yes this is offensive, to the Hindu community. I know many other people who would also agree. And the simple act of Heidi dressing up for an event such as Halloween depicts her character as something demonic. Something she is not, if you do a little more research as to her story. There may be other things to worry about, but for the Hindu community, retaining self respect and upholding our traditional values is of utpmost importance to us.

‘Noah’ Kali Maa represents destruction, correct. But she destroys demons, therefore people have misunderstood the story and now portray her in the wrong light completely. Exactly ‘Enkay’- why can’t people stick to their pumpkin outfits. Lol

  25. This is disgusting

Btw ‘Sonya’, yes she wears skulls of DEMONS. Which is again my point of people misunderstanding what she is about. She is not a wimp, and this is not about defending her, but I think people she remember to have some amount of respect for people’s religious beliefs. Something which seems now to have been forgotten.

  26. That's not cool

This is disgusting - How did you ever get teh impression that I don’t have an ounce of respect for myself. You still have not explained how discussing the number of arms possesed by Kali is offensive. As I recall (and if you simply read the thread again) there was a dispute as to whether or not it was a portrayal of Kali because of the number of arms in the costume).

And what makes me think I can talk about Kali? Because I’m Hindu. See you at Ramlila - or Ramleela depending on where you’re from.

  27. That's not cool

Anyway, let’s at least try to agree to the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinion about this - I doubt that Heidi Klum is at home anxiously biting her nails while trawling the net reading our comments. The costume may have been insensitive and she should have known it would cause controversy but I maintain since she was only seeking to accurately recreate something that she admired and her comportment during that time was acceptable, there was no offense. I don’t feel any.

And my foeticide comment was meant to point out the obvious - there are more important things to be disgusted at and emotional over than this. When we get workedup over these small issues it’s easy to blind us over the major ones.

  28. That’s Not Cool - I wonder if you are really moving on Heidi’s footsteps and are planning do something like she did. Seems like you pretty well know what Hindu Culture is and still you are trying to cement and support her line of thinking.

The best thing for you actually is to rethink and then react to this issue and to know for sure which side are you? If you are such a supporter of her line of thinking then do tell her to try something as funky as playing with muslim people’s sentiments and then “experience” it. The bottomline is that Hindus donot practice extremism and donot really believe in it - and she can call herself lucky on that account.

Recreation is something that’s done with a calm and composed mind and not in the state in which her mind must have been ; trying to make a style statement and being funky or whatever you might call it. And in case she admired Kali then she would have treated her with respect that she well deserves.

And the number of arms really don’t matter - whether 50% or 100 % she has tried to replicate Kaali Maa - can’t you see that ? You better take off your coloured glasses and then see it more clearly!

If you are so keen on going to Ramlila or Ramleela as you so fondly put in here; come I will take you there surely! Moreover, in case you are hinting - even if the Ramleela artists put on godly attire they give it due respect - and they donot ever try to mock at the act they are doing. Its not something to show off like I said - if you DON’T know it, DON’T do it. Don’t be her advocate; she should know she has hurt alot of people whether intentionally done or unintentionally.

This is disgusting - You can too come with us - Thanks.

She owes a public apology for sure.

  29. We herewith write to you in references to the Metro, Page 12 dated 3rd November 2008 where Heidi Klum has stirred a HUGE controversy by dressing up as Hindu goddess Maha Kali for a Halloween party in New York.

We HINDU as a community are truly offended by acknowledging such a foolish act by a celebrity. But most of all we are disgusted to see such matter is taken as lightly as a joke and put it in a newspapers.

Little information to your writer regarding our Goddess Kali, who personifies Sakti or divine energy, is widely worshipped in Hinduism. She is considered the goddess of time and change. Some Bengali poets described her as supreme deity.

There is no room for ignorance! We are ‘disgusted’. How can one even think of such action! This is simply not acceptable. To play or act such secret power into a stage of performance has to flow with its character and it’s theme. Such matter not only creates disturbance among communities but also by putting it in newspaper spreads hatred between religious centres.

Please can someone explain how can Heidi Klum dresses as Goddess Maha Kali! How can she even think to do so! We are very unhappy with her act and we want her to apologise in public for the unacceptable act and may this be a lesson to respect and know your action before executing it!

If anyone wishes to know about the Great Goddess Maha Kali, please contact Guruji on guruji@kalimata.co.uk or please visit the website http://www.kalimata.co.uk

  30. This is disgusting

‘That’s not cool’- I am afraid your argument lacks substance. It is quite clear Heidi’s outfit is a portrayal of Kali Maa. Debating it won’t change this. And my reason for finding offence in the ‘counting of arms’s is quite simply the fact that people are ignoring the issue that she has in fact dressed up as Hindu Goddess and insulting the Hindu community at the same time. I am quite surprised, however that you now admit that you are a Hindu, and find no offence in this matter. I will not dictate your beliefs, but it sounds like you are unaware of the story of Kali Maa. So again, I will emphasise that you read up on this if you ‘wish to discuss it’. May I suggest Guruji’s recommendation above.

Yes I agree everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, that does NOT change the fact that Hindu beliefs have been offended, and if Heidi shows no remorse, then that is her own problem. She should however have researched the topic further before trying ‘recreate it’. I find it odd however that people would think dressing up as a religious Deity would not cause controversy.

Yes there are many issues that may be occurring in the world. This, for me is a big issue. It may be a laughing matter to you, but I hold my religious beliefs very close to heart. This has caused me, and many others offence. I would still consider this a ‘big’ issue for the Hindu community.

I hope you find this a bit more clearer now and I don’t have to repeat my discontent again.

  31. Fancy

This is America people! It is full of insensitivity. Sad but true as the sky is blue. That has a lot to do with the situations our country is now. She was going for ohh’s & ahh’s, not for the year’s most offensive costume. Accurate & offensive or not, she got what she intended…the ATTENTION. Yes an apology is owed, but the chances of getting one are slim to none Dear. Why? Because of the overall lack of respect of minorities; be that race, religion or creed. No it is not acceptable by any means, but there are simply not enough willing to speak out against it to make a difference. That is one of the saddest things about the land of the free and the home of the brave. They’re free enough to not give a damn, which is evident in their actions and brave enough to flaunt it with the help of the USA’s brain-washer….the media. God Bless(ed) America! (With Obama). TRY NOT TO LET HER STEAL YOUR JOY; SHE WASN’T EVEN TRYING TO.

  32. THAT'S NOT COOL

    Oh for the love of…

It’s like trying to explain evolution in the Bible belt. I quit this post. Fight amongst yourselves.

  33. unknown

i fucking think this bitch is so fucking stupid. first of all that’s NOT Lord Shiva. these assholes need to be corrected. And if she’s trying to unsuccessfully dress like Kali, she should research it first before fucking pokling fun at oe of the world’s oldest religios. Stupid ass broad.

  34. Get a life!

Ok, this thread is really bizzare!! I’m a Hindu, and I think Heidi’s outfit ROCKED!! It was absolutely AWESOME! So what if Heidi had 8 arms instead of Kali’s 10? And it varies, so people, get a life! She isn’t poking fun at Hindus. Hell! If she dressed up as Christ she wouldn’t be poking fun at him!! This is Halloween!! Why can’t you people just take things in the spirit they are ment to be taken in? Why does everything have to rake up a controversy? And what is this total crap about being a minority and being opressed? Opressed about what? Someone dressing up as Kali? Puhlease!

  35. ENKAY

That’s Not Cool - Thank you for leaving!

  36. lolz

I’m a hindu and i thought this was pretty goofy.

oh and sonya REALLLY needs to get laid sometime soon, damn girl chill the fuck out

  37. Guest

It is an offensive Constume… She should have given second thought before wearing it.

  38. Neutral

I am a very religious Hindu as well and I don’t think her intent was to offend anyone, she just wanted to have a unique costume. I do however think jokes about her vagina and breasts are very offensive because Kali is worshipped highly and noone goes around making such jokes or crude comments about dieties of other religions/cultures. Kali is often misinterpreted as this scary goddess, but she was one who fought evil, each one of her arms, the heads dangling from her necklaces, etc are all symbolic of higher ideals that should be thought about and respected. She represents the constant fight of external and internal evils that we each much go through and if that is understood by people and implemented in life then I think that is the most important thing to think about.

Again, I think it is truly disrespectful for people to make jokes about her female body parts–it is rude to do so about anyone and especially a goddess. Her body is depicted in this way because it symbolizes something greater, it is not to be made fun of or for entertainment purposes.

  39. JTK

I don’t care what her intent was, I don’t care who’s religion she offends. That is meaningless. Every religion has beliefs that offend other religions, and the only way to be intellectually honest is to be equally willing to offend all of them because not offending any of them is completely impossible.

If your beliefs are so fragile that a hot german blonde dressing up as one of your gods hurts you, then you need to think about finding beliefs that are more secure.

  40. eastofthesindu

F that cracker ass skinny ass white biyatch…Heidi Klum can kiss my hairy brown ass…

  41. JP

Guruji, I really thinks it is quite hypocritical for you to say such a thing as making an apology and even going as far as making the comments you made.

That is not how Hinduism works and the way you speak is very contradicting, selfish, and an act of attachment in the sense that you care so much about something so unimportant.

Don’t care so much about things like this! Without differences there would essentially be no balance in the world.

  42. Anonymous

I commend her for daringness. However, Kali is a deity and doesn’t matter how unique she wanted to dress….this was not appropriate at all. Dressing up as a GOD may trigger different emotions in individuals, and has to be kept in mind.

  43. proudbeingindian

i lyk her costume….bt she shud hav thought dt thousands of hindus r taking her costume offensively….even though i lyk hers nd her husbands costume i still take it offensively…

  44. ThankYouHeidi

Thanks to Heidi’s amazing Halloween costume I’m now interested in learning more about this deity. All of the attention to detail shows that she, or the person who created the costume for her, respectfully tried to create a costume that didn’t attempt to recreate the deity verbatim, but rather generate an impression that would elicit a strong, emotional or intellectual response. Congratulation Heidi on becoming an American citizen, whom greatly enjoy our freedoms, including religion.

  45. Rebel

I absolutely love this outfit! For those who are so offended, you need to lighten up. This outfit wasn’t meant to offend anyone. I’ve always said Religion is the Root of all evils and I clearly rest my case with your all the clashing out there (of wars and minds). I’m so glad I’m an atheist.

  46. Benjamoon von Schwulemann

Ban all religions. They ALL offend me.

  47. Kumar

Heidi Klum is a fuckin bitch, I cant tolerate this sluts to mock my religion Hinduism. It’s better tat she shows up her nasty pussy than to behave like tat. Sorry for my bad words guys

  48. Actually I don’t even know who this Klum person is. I retract my previous post on the grounds that I was experiencing temporary insanity (other wise I would not have been looking at this page, much less posting a dithering comment).

  49. Want some cheese with ur whine?

Hello? Everyone is missing the point. Her costume isn’t correct because she wasn’t trying to portray a particular goddess but liked the exotic look it has. So stfu about religion. And people dress up as gods and goddesses all the time. No one cries when someone dresses up as Venus or Jesus. Get OVER it. Seriously, some people have way tooooo much time on their hands if this is all they got to whine about. Shut up. It’s just a costume.

  50. k-dawg

People complining. You all suck c*ck! I am hindu, and love the costume. Why the rest of you feel the need to “bitch” about how many fu*ing arms there are , or how “OFFENDED” you are is beyond me. Maybe you should spend you time and energy on more important things than getting pissed off over a costume!

    Later

  51. swann2b

That costume is Durga, I believe. Hmmm. Intense, intresting, and insulting.
