Lindsay Lohan Praises “Our First Colored President”
Tags: access hollywood, barack obama, colored, colored president, Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan sat down with Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos last night and tried to sound smart by discussing her sentiments on the election of new President Barack Obama. Unfortunately, within the first thirty seconds of the interview, Lindsay referenced Obama as “our first colored president,” officially marking the first time the word “colored” has been used on prime time television since 1974. Statistics indicate that the only way this could be more embarrassing for Lindsay is if she had also been in black face sitting atop a forty acres and a mule.

So what? Why don’t we burn her on a stake for such a terrible thing she did.
He is our first colored president and that makes him special. I think this PC stuff is getting ridiculous, black, colored, negro, African American, biracial… Its all good! Let’s not get to the point where we pretend that we have no difference in appearance.
Diversity is a good thing not a bad thing!

Colored?! Ok, that is NOT acceptable. We are in 2008 thank you very much. Yes, diversity is great. I am bi-racial (half of which is African American) and I do not think that this whole “PC” thing is out of control. (This comment is directed at Gemma). People don’t go around calling President Bush a “cracker” or something equally offensive…so don’t say it’s “all good” to interchange “black, colored, negro…etc.”
Ugh. Some people suck.

yeah, colored is seen as offensive to many of us blk folk, the correct use of that word would be ‘person of color’.
i think LiLo’s only crime was that of ignorance, though. not mean-spiritedness.

Hmmmm, while we’re on the topic - why do black folks in the US insist on being called African American? 99.9% of them have never been to Africa and American’s are so bad at geography I bet most of them couldn’t even point out Africa on a map. I’m white, and Canadian. I’m not European Canadian, or England Canadian or anything like that. I’m just white. So forgive me, but Obama isn’t colored, he’s black. In fact he’s only partially black, and although he’s family actually IS one of the few who might be able to claim the name African American, he’s just an American. That goes for all other black folks. You’re black and American.
End of rant.

Most black people don’t want to be called African American, that’s some PC term someone came up with long ago and still sticks because white people are scared to point out our differences in skin tone.

This is a revision of history. Blacks asked to be called colored because they did not like the N word. So it was done. Later they asked to be called Black so that was done. Lately they asked to be called African Americans but its to late America is fed up that they want to change the name of the race every 20 years or so.
It was never a derogatory term. My god can you imagine a raciest calling a black a colored instead of the N word.
If you thinks blacks did not pick and embrace this term then how do you explain blacks placing the word colored in the name NAACP?
Calling this a derogatory term shows you have a profound ignorance of history.

Glad to hear it Yoli, now could you call into news organization like CNN and FOXNEWS and spread the word that the whole term is silly and the rest of the world knows it
This whole PC thing has gotten so out of control it’s insane. My next rant should be how I wish everyone a Merry Little Holiday.

Ridiculous. I personally find that not offensive, but displeasing to hear–because back in the day, the two designations were “white” and “colored,” end of story. The term “colored” usually meant you were below, and hearing that now triggers thoughts of inequality, prejudice and hatred. Simple as that.
Lindsay–no, as a matter of fact, everyone, let’s keep it nice and simple. Minority. Yes? Our first president that is a racial minority.

For those of you who don’t see what the problem is with calling black people colored, try going out in public and calling a black person colored to their face and see what happens. And then after you wake up tell me if you feel the same way.

ummmm…….What makes you think I enjoy being called African-American…. That is a classification white people gave us…. We get a new one every ten years or so…..actually I really enjoy being called by my birth name and if not that then just refer to me as Katt-Daddy

pshaw, she made a mistake. I know coloured isn’t the “pc” term, but in a way, it’s apt. he’s not only the first Black president, he’s the first NON white president. He IS the first president of colour, any colour.

Yes Lohan is an idiot, but we all knew that already. Racist? Probably not. No matter how much you hate this Hollywood backwash, it is too much to think she was being derogatory. “Colored” in reference to an African American can be racist but you have to look at the context because it is not like the N-word. (I am so excited that we have our first N-word president.) I think that even if a person were to use African American or any other PC term, it could be racist depending on the context. E.g. I am so disgusted that we have a f-ing stupid African American President.
This is just another example of a reporter trying to make a story where no real story exists, as though it is big hypocrisy scandal. (Like conservative politicians who touch boys or try to score in airport bathrooms). Oh, look at the Hollywoodite who is soooo tolerant and open-minded but who throws around terrible racial slurs. Other notorious comments of late include “lipstick on a pig.” Of course we could take the extreme view and state that anyone referencing Obama’s race in reference to the presidency is a racist, because race should be a non-issue.
It is funnier than hell how she says “colored” like half way through she decides that it was not the best word choice. Anecdotal? Yes. Newsworthy? Hardly.
The bottom line is that everyone hates Lohan, but not necessarily enough to agree that she is a racist under the circumstances. Newshounds, be patient, she is stupid enough that you won’t have to wait long to catch her sullying her name again and again and again. there is no need to stretch so far.
Either that or wait until Dick Cheney refers to Obama as our first “Colored” President.
Don’t hate him because he is black, hate him for all the other stuff, there is plenty there.

He pulled those facts out of his a**.
We never asked to be called “colored”, “negro”, “black” or maybe even “african american” (WHY WE WOULD WE ASK TO BE CALLED BLACK WHEN OUR SKIN IS BROWN!?) Was there a few who preferred those terms? Yes. No one sent a request in to the United States and they granted their wish, however.
In the end, we don’t want to be called “colored”, “negro”, “black” or even “african-american”, but just “americans”. American itself created those “color barriers” to never have people associate themselves with other “races”, and these new terms will continue to exist as long as yall want them to…which means forever in my book. We want cultural pluralism just as much as Americans “idealistically” crave. “Idealistically”, not in reality.
Jim, I would love for you to share your source of knowledge on that particular quote, however.

Black people don’t want to be called Colored because of what that word represented in the Jim Crow south. The term African-American came about because many of the black people in this country are descendants of slaves from, guess where? The continent of Africa. The PC term became en vogue because many of the descendants of slaves cannot be traced back to a specific country in Africa. Which I am sure most Black people can find on a map. But maybe not some nominees for Vice President.
Having said that, most black people prefer the term Black and that is what we call ourselves. Even more black people would just like to be called Americans. African American is a PC term that is not offensive and therefore doesn’t really hurt anyone. But the problem is not how we refer to ourselves, it is how others see and refer to us that seems to make things complicated.
If you are not trying to be an offensive jerk when referring to black people, then most of us are smart enough to see that and can look past it and move on.

I dont understand why is it wrong for white people to use the N word, but every other rapper uses it in their songs. I think today America is still divided, was the fact that Obama won great because he was a great candidate or because of the fact he was black, thus making it a “historical” win.
I think all racial barriers will be crossed when we have a President that just so happens to be black, and not a “Black” president. I think it’s quite insulting for Obama’s family (50% white) that he’s win is historic because he’s Black, when in fact he comes from a family so cultural diverse that the color of his skin was not an issue.
In reference to Lindsay’s comment, she might be at fault for calling him colored, but so are every other rapper, athlete or prominent figure that still uses the N-word because they are promoting the use of something that has a negative connotation for some AMERICANS (see, not blacks, african-americans, etc)

So here she is PRAISING a black President up and down, talking about how PROUD she is, then she says “colored” and people are calling her a bigot? Have you people completely lost your minds?
You guys know that black people are the ones who pushed for the use of that term, right? You know that NAACP stands for National Association for the Advancement of COLORED People, right?
Give it a rest.
Hint, for those of you with dangerously low IQs:
Racist: “I’m depressed and ashamed that we elected a black man as President”.
Not Racist: “I’m excited and proud that we elected a colored man as President.”

FYI: The NAACP is not only for black people, it’s for ALL ‘people of color’, period, so the comments that posted NAACP are meritless, thanks for trying though. lol
