Britney and Russell Brand 2009 VMAs Commercial

The first of the Russell Brand/Britney Spears VMA’s commercials hit the airwaves yesterday, and in this one, Russell and and a bikini-clad Britney communicate telepathically. So MTV’s brilliant advertising campaign is basically thirty seconds of Britney hearing voices in her head. What a stretch, huh? Maybe next they can shoot one where it burns when she pees or another where she chokes trying to swallow an entire fruit pie without chewing.

    So let me get this straight. MTV (which stand for of all things Music TeleVision) doesn’t actually show video’s (or anything else music related at all) anymore, is throwing a show called the Video Music Awards or VMA’s for video’s they don’t show, and that no one has likely seen, rewarding (somehow) performers that no one enjoys in a format that no one watches.

    Ratings gold.

    It’s a shame too, I’ve been listening to a few of the MTV Unplugged albums and miss when MTV was about music and not twats.

    Right, and this is why music is dead. Remember when the Mickey Mouse Club wasn’t shitting in our collective ears? Back before Disney destroyed music? Remember when radio mattered?

    Man, I miss real musicians. Now all we have are lip-syncing “performers” like Britney and the rest of the Mouseketeer idiots. Oh, and hip-hop, the musical fad that refuses to die (oh hair metal, please come back, all is forgiven).

    The last time I watched the VMAs it was all about hip-hop and rap. The saddest part was they had half of ZZ-Top playing as the token “house band” off in some dusty corner, kind of like one of those music boxes from the 19th century.
