82nd Annual Academy Award’s Best Dressed

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards were last night, and other than The Dude winning for “Crazy Heart” and “Avatar” getting rightfully snubbed (“unobtainium,” anyone?), it was a completely forgettable affair. I remember some big fat black chick winning for something, and then she somehow turned into an even bigger, fatter, blacker chick by the end of the night, for which I have no explanation other than James Cameron and possibly peyote.

But the one thing I do remember are the dresses, and while there were plenty of disappointments, a few stars really stood out this time. Kate Winslet, for one. And her dress wasn’t even that spectacular, but paired with the jewelery and the hair and the makeup… I don’t know… she just looked perfect. Versace did Demi Moore and Elizabeth Banks proud, and as much as it pains me to say it, I thought Kristen Stewart’s dress was fantastic. I’ll save the rest of my vitriol and condescension for the worst-dressed, coming up next. Stay tuned!

If you care about this sort of thing, a list of the night’s winners here.

did you just put jlos hideous bubble wrap dress with some more bubble wrap stapled to her hip and sandra bullocks frumpy golden girls frock into best dressed? wow.

Kate Winslet was doable as always, but I found the rest boring. Although that moment when that crazy old bat got up there and grabbed the Oscar from that dude for that music documentary and made no sense at all, that was priceless!

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. Kenye West’s version was mean, this one was just plain NUTS! lol

Last year’s best actress winner Kate Winslet (in Yves Saint Laurent and $2.5 million yellow-diamond necklace by Tiffany) is an acting genius, demonstrable by comparing her acting alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s skills. As brilliant an actor as Leonardo DiCaprio is, (cf. Shutter Island {2010}), Kate Winslet is able to act circles around him, such as in Revolutionary Road (2008), where he painfully over-acts, compared to her.

Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, has always struck me as a mediocre talent at best, kitsch at worst. But to be fair, not having seen her picture yet, for which she won, perhaps she finally delivered. Her Marchesa gown was certainly among the most beautiful there.

Yet perhaps the Oscar winners this year have more to do with Academy Governor Tom Hanks’ politics as a government hack, (“I think the President is doing a spectacular job”, etc.).

Hamish Hamilton did a great job directing the 82nd Annual Academy Award’s and managed to stay conservative enough, not to call overly conspicuous attention to himself.

I tried to be a little more forgiving this year and throw a couple of celebrities a bone, because I usually hate all but two or three of the dresses.

Kate Winslet is always so unbelievably beautiful it makes me want to hate her (which I can’t) or make out with her. I’m so conflicted.

jlo’s dress was structurally nice…her hair looked like she just woke up and forgot her weave!
