She did that one crappy song with Mariah Carey a while back and she’s the girl rapper in Young Money’s “Bedrock.” Hey, you know that one part in the song where she goes, “Say Nicki don’t stop you the bestest, and I just be coming off the top as bestest?” I always thought she was saying “I just be coming off the top asbestos.” I just figured it was fair warning that repeated exposure to the song might cause mesothelioma of the ear drums. Turns out she was just too lazy to think of another word that rhymes with “bestest.” I guess “Mae West fest” and “recessed breast” would have sounded too cerebral for top forty radio.

Downloading didn’t kill Hip Hop. The Federal Communications Act did. Deregulating the industry (specifically radio) allowed Clear Channel to buy up the airwaves, while on the industry side of things, 2Pac and BIG’s murders created a power vacuum stylistically… w/ acts like The Fugee’s BLOWING up… only to implode, leaving bullshit like No Limit Records, and eveything Puffy started doing after BIG died left w/o contention. That being said… Nicki’s alright… we’ll see how well she holds her own when it comes time to tour the radio/freestyle circuit once her album is finished (see: Drake decomposing to absolute shit @ Hot 97 w/ Funk Flex and on the Tim Westwood Show)… but yeah, she wasn’t THIS thick when she first got hot.
