Punk is not being a media whore who tryed to get famous by changing your sound...kinda like good charlotte,i listend to the album "young and the hopeless" and it was a mix of hard rock with whineing,now "chronicles of life and death" sounds like emo pop. they made "life styles of the rich and the famous" and now they live that song. also,old punk,greenday did kinda change there music,it doesnt have that kick to it anymore like basketcase,burnout,brainstew had,but still kinda has the same message.
