Celeb Look to Steal: Nicole Richie’s Cat Eye

Nicole Richie wore a Sophia Loren-inspired cat eye to the AOL 2013 Digital Content NewFront Event in New York, and it reminded me of something Sophia once said — “If you haven’t cried, your eyes can’t be beautiful.” Nicole was Paris Hilton’s best friend for the better part of a decade and she’s married to that guy from Good Charlotte, so crying probably comes naturally for her. And my, but her eyes look beautiful!

DO-IT-YOURSELF CAT EYE IN THREE EASY STEPS:

  1. Nicole lined her inner rims with a black pencil, but for a more Sophia Loren feel, line the inner lash line with a white or beige tone pencil that’s creamy (Benefit’s Eye Bright is a good one), or you risk tearing the delicate skin on the eye.
  2. Beauty Advisor for the Mail Online Craig Alexander Wilson says, “Start from the outside edge of the eye, positioning your [eyeliner brush, pencil or pen] at an angle above the lashline and draw a line eventually meeting the lashline and right into the inner eye. Now fill in the area between the lashline and the first stroke of liner. Keep it quick, sharp and clean. Don’t be tempted to flick at the outside edge. Although exaggerated, the liner shouldn’t really flick or curl up. Line along the bottom lashes as well, keeping close to the lashline.” (Laura Mercier Graphic Liquid Eyeliner has a felt tip applicator, which makes it a little easier to use than most liquid liners. If it’s humid or you’re going to be sweaty, try a waterproof cream eyeliner like Yves Saint Laurent’s Faux Cil Long-Wear Eyeliner so you don’t end up looking like an unhappy prostitute.)
  3. Mascara. The only word you need to know here is “more.” Load up with several coats of Dior Diorshow Mascara, followed by a coat of Benefit BADgal mascara on the outer lashes. Or up the glam by adding a strip of false eyelashes like Nicole (Illamsqua and Sephora both have a great selection).
