Madonna’s Adoption Appeal Has Been Approved

Madonna & Mercy James

Madonna’s appeal of her rejected adoption bid was approved this morning by the Malawi High Court.  From Us Weekly:

On Friday, Malawi’s highest court ruled that Madonna can adopt a second child — 3-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James — from the African country.

A lower court had denied Madonna’s bid to adopt in April, claiming she had not spent enough time in the country.

But in Friday’s one-hour ruling, Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo praised Madonna’s commitment to helping disadvantaged children and slammed “old laws” that prevented first adoption attempts.

“The matter of residence should be determined at the time of application of the adoption,” Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo said. “In this case, Madonna was in Malawi not by chance but by intention. She is looking after several orphans whose welfare depends on her. She can therefore not be described as a sojourner.”

He later added: “Every child has the right to love.”

Uh huh.  Love.  Suuuuuuuure.  Because Madonna is such a loving mother.  This poor little girl is doomed.  DOOMED, I say!  If she grows up to be even remotely attractive, Madonna might snap and seal her behind a brick wall or something.  But probably not before harvesting her organs in an effort to capture eternal youth, so I guess there’s always that to look forward to.

James Kambewa, the father of the little girl that Madonna is trying to steal for her supper adopt, spoke up against her fitness to be a mother. I hope he has a silver bullet handy, she may come for him next. Digital Spy reports,

James Kambewa, the father of four-year-old Mercy James, has accused Madonna of not portraying good morals.

Madonna attempted to adopt the child in Malawi last month, but her application was denied by the authorities in that country.

The pop superstar is said to be confident about the prospects of overturning this ruling at an appeal on Monday.

Kambewa told the Daily Mail: “Madonna has millions of dollars but that doesn’t make her a good mum. Parental love is more than money.

“Besides, I don’t think Madonna is a model mum. I have seen her in movies of her songs. She doesn’t portray good morals.”

He added: “How can a woman of 50 dance almost naked on stage? I wouldn’t want my daughter to grow up like that! In Malawi women respect themselves. Cultured women do not go about half-naked.

“I also heard after her marriage failed she is already seeing two men, both very younger than her and her ex-husband. I hear one of them is even less than half her age. That’s scandalous. How can a normal woman fall for a boy who can as well be her son? No, spare my Mercy that scandal.”

I love it that some pauper in a third world country has more good sense than the idiots who would willingly give a child to Madonna’s “care”. But I’d watch your back, James. It wouldn’t surprise me if he suddenly “disappeared” for daring to speak against The Madge.

Slumdog Millionaire's Rubina Ali

Hola, cochinillos.  It’s Sarah today.  There’s a feverish tiny tot being all gross and riddled with germs in my house at the moment, so I’ve gotten a bit of a late start today.  Anyway, speaking of children, remember that little girl from Slumdog Millionaire?  Yeah, her father totally tried to sell her.  From the Daily Mail:

The father of the child star who won hearts across the world for her role in Slumdog Millionaire denies he offered her up for adoption for £270,000.

Rubina Ali, who played the young Latika in the Oscar-winning film, was reportedly put up for adoption by father Rafiq Qureshi - for a hefty asking price.

But he now denies he was trying to ’sell’ Rubina, 9, to undercover newspaper reporters. Rafiq claims he believed he was discussing a ‘well-paying’ film role and would never put his children up for sale.

An undercover investigation by the News of the World reportedly discovered that Rafiq was offering Rubina to a wealthy Middle Eastern family for adoption.

When the deal fell through, the paper contacted the girl’s family under the pretence of adopting her. Rubina’s uncle is believed to have confirmed the family were interested in ’selling’ the young star for millions of rupees.

‘Yes, we are interested in securing our girl’s future… Obviously if you wanted to adopt we could discuss this, but her parents would also expect some proper compensation in return,’ the paper quoted the uncle as saying.

But Rubina’s father now denies the allegations.

Slumdog director Danny Boyle and producer Christian Colson have set up a fund for Rubina and her young co-star Azharuddin Ismail to give them a proper education, decent housing and support to cope with their fame. The child stars have also each been given a luxury apartment in Kerala, south India, by the sound engineer who worked on the film.

But Rubina’s father claims the family have seen nothing of the promised rewards.

‘We haven’t got anything yet, it’s all supposed to come later,’ he told the undercover reporters.

The family then reportedly offered Rubina for the price of 20million rupees - around £270,000.

You know, India sounds like a delightful place to raise a family.  This story would really warm the cockles of my heart, if only I knew what the holy hell heart cockles were.

Madonna in Malawi

Madonna’s latest bid at the orphan market was rejected by a Malawi judge this morning.  From Us Weekly:

Madonna’s application to adopt Chifundo “Mercy” James, 3, was turned down by a Malawi judge Friday morning in court, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.

The judge cited requirements that adoptive parents reside in the country for 18 to 24 months.

Madonna, 50, can appeal against the order. She adopted David Banda, 3, in 2006 without meeting the residency requirements, which caused outrage by non-governmental groups that felt she was using her celebrity status to bend the law.

Judge Esme Chombo had been expected to sign off on the adoption at Lilongwe High Court.

Madonna’s lawyer Alan Chinula told Us Wednesday: “I am not sleeping sleepless nights over this. I don’t see any law in Malawi that can stop this adoption.”

Well, I guess either this will drag itself out in Malawi courts, or Madonna will have to find a new orphan to buy.  Either way, I couldn’t care less if I tried.

Malawian Girl Being Prepared for Madonna

Madonna

The rumors are true; Madonna is set to adpot another Malawian child. Maybe that brand of kid suits her tastebuds or something. Digital Spy reports,

A four-year-old girl in Malawi named Mercy James has been taken to a luxury lodge to prepare her for adoption by Madonna, it has been claimed.

The pop superstar is expected to visit the country this weekend after she filed adoption papers there, the Daily Mail reports.

A source said: “Mercy has been handed over to Madonna’s people, who are already at the lodge, and is being cared for by a nanny.

“They are waiting for Madonna to arrive so mother and daughter can be united and then Madonna is expected to take Mercy with her when she leaves.”

The child had been living at an orphanage near Blantyre in southern Malawi and was moved to Kumbali Lodge near Lilongwe.

I hear she’s being ceremonially washed in the waters of a natural spring, then dressed in a beautiful silk sarong. Then her hair will being brushed with fragrant oils and artfully arranged, and adorned with orchids. A little tranquilizer will be added to her milk so she won’t struggle when the feast begins. Godspeed, Mercy James!

Lindsay Lohan’s Ready for Babies

I know the first thing you think when you hear the name “Lindsay Lohan” is “Why doesn’t this girl have a couple of babies under her belt?” Well, don’t you worry — that’s all about to change. According to the NY Daily News

The 22-year-old star told Marie Claire, “I want to adopt a kid … A child in need or a newborn from another country. I’m not sure yet.” Lohan believes her own experience would make her that much more qualified as a mom.

If there’s one thing children thrive on — other than Mountain Dew and a public education — it’s emotional instability and substance abuse. That’s why so many famous people have kids. To “share the wealth,” as it were. The only way that little Lohan, Jr. could be any luckier is if he found himself a ward of the state or camped out in Josef Fritzl’s basement. Congratulations to the happy mom-to-be!
