Shelley Malil, best known for his role in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, has been found guilty of attempted murder. He should probably start praying to Vishnu right about now. Digital Spy reports,
Shelley Malil has been found guilty of the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin actor had been charged with stabbing Kendra Beebe more than 20 times during a violent argument at her San Marcos, California home in 2008.
San Diego County jurors also found Malil guilty of assault with a deadly weapon, although he was acquitted of residential burglary.
He has yet to be sentenced but could face 21 years to life in prison, according to PA.
Defence lawyer Matthew Roberts argued that Malil, 45, went too far after picking up a kitchen knife when he discovered Beebe on her patio with another man, but said that the actor never intended to commit murder.
Deputy District Attorney Keith Watanabe countered that Malil brought the knife to the residence himself, and claimed that Beebe was lucky to be alive.
During the trial, Malil told the courtroom that he only attacked the mother-of-two because he thought that she was a mystery assailant.
Damn straight he didn’t intend to commit murder. If he had really meant business, he’d have called some guys from local 7-11 to gang rape her, beat her, maybe through some acid on her face and razor blade the corner of her mouth for good measure, and then kill her. He showed an amazing amount of restraint by only knifing her. Man should get a medal.
